No, I'm not a member of CPSU

The first step to getting union help with your issue is to join CPSU.

You should, however, be aware that if you join CPSU with a pre-existing work problem we will apply our pre-existing issues policy to your membership. Our pre-existing issues policy requires members who want us to help them with an issue that arose (in part or in full) before they joined to pay the real industrial cost of representation for that work problem at a rate of $88.00 per hour, as well as pay one years back dues. This price is far cheaper than the cost of an industrial lawyer or solicitor, however it also ensures that existing members do not subsidise industrial costs created by those who have not been paying membership.

Our policy recognises the ongoing contribution of our existing members without whom CPSU would not be able to;

  • negotiate Agreements which improve pay and conditions,
  • run campaigns to improve workplace health & safety,
  • represent members in restructures, grievances, reclass, & discipline actions,
  • provide expert industrial, WorkCover and OHS advice 24/7
  • participate in the ACTU’s Rights at Work campaign.

The policy is designed to encourage employees to join their union when they commence work, rather than only at times of crisis and to contribute to the positive developments at your workplace.

We will discuss the implementation of the policy with you before commencing any work on your behalf. As part of the policy CPSU requires members who are receiving assistance under these conditions to deposit $650 into a trust fund, against which the hourly rates for assistance are drawn. There are also requirements in relation to the membership fee payments you will need to take out.

CPSU relies on membership resources to run all our campaigns and by joining CPSU; you can protect one of your most important assets – your Job!
