Brumby commits Labor to Protect PS Jobs

No Redundancies & Entitlements to be Protected

Premier John Brumby has written to CPSU State Secretary Karen Batt today to outline his commitments on public sector jobs should his government be returned at the upcoming general election.

I am pleased to confirm that a re-elected Brumby Government will re-commit to its policy of no forced redundancies for the next term he writes.

In relation to redundancy entitlements the Premier commits if re-elected, legislation to protect public sector redundancy and severance entitlements that are not currently regulated by the Commonwealth's Fair Work laws.

The Premier also commits to continuing his support for workers who wish to stay in Melbourne and for those who wish to move under the Government's regionailastion policies.

Working with CPSU on a framework for bargaining next year is another commitment along with a review of contractors and Labour hire within the public sector.

Finally but as important is a commitment to work with CPSU and our child protection workers to more effectively manage the allocation of cases including a working party to focus on the alleviation of workforce pressures to investigate caseload mix and ceilings.

Karen Batt said 'the letter and commitments were very welcome.

As our members Employer it says to the Service that the work being done is highly valued.

That their Employer intends to treat their workforce with respect, fairness and dignity.

That they understand this positive attitude returns productivity and professionalism.

There are innovative projects being undertaken everyday and all government workers contribute to making Victoria the best place to live and work.

Others seem to only focus on the bash, ridicule and blame.

The Premier has distinguished himself by rejecting this approach just as his predecessor Steve Bracks had done.'
