Two Great Child Protection Wins
DHHS has agreed after ongoing discussions with CPSU to fund 6 FTE positions to undertake subpoena file preparation and file redaction and informed us that the new 452 positions have been allocated to Divisions.
Creation of Subpoena Unit
DHHS has agreed after ongoing discussions with CPSU to fund 6 FTE positions to undertake subpoena file preparation and file redaction.
These additional EFT will allow CP staff to devote more time to the crucial work needed to meet the needs of children across the state.
The unit will sit in the city at head office and will address subpoenas from courts across the state.
CPSU is very pleased that the Department has taken up our proposal and created this new unit to handle subpoenas centrally and relieve Child Protection staff from this workload.
Keep sending in your suggestions on ways to improve our CP services.
More CP Workers on the Ground
At a meeting today with DHHS we were informed that the new 452 positions have been allocated to divisions.
There will be 69 new staff positions allocated to the North Division.
There will be 107.5 new staff positions in the South.
There will be 31.1 new staff positions in the East, and
There will be 94.9 new staff positions in the West Division.
DHHS has agreed to work in a collaborative way with CPSU and will form a group to look at the implementation and roll-out of these positions.
These numbers include the 150 positions that were implemented last year and are already out in the field and they include 25 in the North, 45 in the South, 25 in the East and 55 in the West Divisions.
CPSU is pleased that the Department and the Government have listened to the Unions long and persistent arguments for greater staff resources in Child Protection.
We Need Your Help to Address the Issues in CP
We are asking CPSU Child Protection members to participate in discussions with the Department as part of a CPSU delegation:
- to meet with Management in each Division to discuss how the new positions are allocated. We need at least three members/Delegates from each Division to work with CPSU Industrial staff Andy Capp and Magda Akkerman.
- to meet with Departmental management about the development of a Child Protection Workforce Strategy.
Please contact CP liaison officer Magda on 03 9413 6646 or 0439 632 085.
