Sell-Out on Land Titles
The Treasurer confirms he will proceed with the sale of parts of the land titles registry and hand Victorians’ personal property details to the private sector.
This is an extremely disappointing decision and very short sighted by the State Government. It’s unfortunate that the expertise of existing staff wasn't utilised to explore new data developments for the government that big business will now exploit. Treasury are only seeing sale money and are blind to the regular revenue opportunities that currently exist and private corporations will introduce. The road ahead to sell our land data will not be as easy as Treasury has made out and there's a lot of water still to flow under this bridge - Karen Batt, CPSU Victorian Secretary.
