Union Summer 2008

Are you interested in social justice and workers rights? If the answer is YES then a Union Summer 3 week internship with CPSU in early 08 may be for you!

The Young Unionists Network (YUN) was established by the Victorian Trades Hall Council (VTHC) in order to promote unions to young people and engage young activists in the cross-union issues affecting them.

To date, YUN has launched a number of projects that have successfully built young member involvement in the union movement, and to this end, YUN is proud to announce that its widely acclaimed Union Summer program will be running again in 2008.

Union Summer is a 3-week union internship program which provides young activists with the opportunity to undertake an organising project with their union.

The internship includes a comprehensive training program which is carried out by the VTHC and includes classes in industrial relations, occupational health and safety and building organising skills.

CPSU is proud to support this program again and in its fifth year running is seeking expressions of interest from young CPSU activists who wish to participate in the program and learn more about their union.

The Program will run from Tuesday 29th January until Friday 15th February in 2008 and interns will receive a stipend of $250 per week to cover some costs.

In addition, paid trade union training leave as per our Industrial Agreements and Deeds will be available to members, and an extension will be sought to cover the 3 weeks on offer.

Expressions of interest can be made by faxing 9662 4591 marked attention to CPSU Industrial Officers Geraldine Hughes and Mandy Coulson ‚Äö?Ñ?¨ and should include your details and 200 words about your experience and why you would like to be involved.

Initial applications close Friday 21st December 2007.

So be quick and spend your Summer working with others who are also committed to improving the working lives of public sector employees, and the communities they live in.

CPSU looks forward to hearing form you soon!
