The Initial 5-day CPSU HSR Initial OHS training course provides elected health and safety representatives (HSRs) and deputy HSRs with the skills, knowledge and confidence required to successfully carry out this important role in the workplace.

The course covers a broad range of learning objectives as determined by WorkSafe Victoria such as:

1.      Understanding and interpreting the OHS legislation and its relationship to the role of the HSR

2.      Identifying who has obligations and duties under legislation

3.      Representation, participation and consultation in the workplace and issue resolution

4.      The powers of the HSR including issuing Provisional Improvement Notices (PIN) and directing cessation of work

This course is a WorkSafe approved training course and HSRs and Deputy HSRs are entitled to choose the approved training course of their choice under section 67 of the OHS Act 2004, in consultation with the employer.

CPSU training is tailored to employees working in the Victorian Public Sector, ensuring that case studies and activities are engaging and practical examples for HSRs and Deputy HSRs to implement in their workplaces.

HSRs and Deputy HSRs are entitled to time off work with pay and the costs associated to attend the course are paid by the employer, in accordance with the OHS Act 2004

• To secure enrolment, payment must be made prior to commencement. (with exception to waitlisted participants) An invoice will be sent to the nominated biller. 
• CPSU accepts enrolments on the basis of our Union Industrial coverage of your workplace. 
• This course will be delivered face to face. 
•   Spaces are limited to 16 participants.
•  Participants will receive a certificate of attendance once the full 5 days of the course are completed.
• The initial course must be completed within 6 months of commencement.
• CPSU provides all participants with course materials, please ensure you can attend all 5 days of the course.

CPSU can also deliver group training upon request.
