Govt Concedes Impacts of Job Cuts

Fair Work Establishes Agency Consultative Mechanisms
CPSU has secured consultative concessions on Public Service job cuts from the State Gov't which requires ALL Departments and Agencies to detail the potential impacts of job cuts on existing employees before they proceed.  Our Victorian Public Service Agreement requires consultation on change with affected staff and the union of any restructure of the workplace or change to existing work practices.

CPSU had lodged a dispute alleging a failure of Govt agencies to provide information, as required under our VPS Agreement, about the likely effects on staff of the freeze on recruitment and the discontinuation of fixed term contracted staff.  After 3 days of private talks, Govt agreed to joint consultative committees in each Dept/Agency about SGI impacts on work distribution arising from the job cuts.

Agencies will now have to detail how they intend to manage the work and deliver the programs with the staff reductions.

These committees will bring forward more information, in addition to the discovery process arising from our public service wages arbitration, about the impacts on programs being cut by stealth through SGI.

This consultative process will run alongside our public service wages arbitration hearings which get underway today (Monday 18 June) before a Fair Work full bench.

Hand this Fair Work statement, issued late Friday, when required to now take on extra work arising from SGI cuts.
