Rewards Program Saves Member $260 p.a.

Updated 22/04/2016

How one member saves almost half his fortnightly membership - Jason has been a member of the union for many years and pays the $22.00 per fortnight membership rate. He registered for the CPSU Rewards program three weeks ago and has saved himself $18.80 so far. Here’s how he does it.

”I have a growing family and a pretty big grocery bill. We spend at least $350 a fortnight on food at the supermarket – probably more to be honest. After I registered for CPSU Rewards I noticed that I could buy Coles or Woolworths gift vouchers for a 5% discount.

So I gave it a try. My regular supermarket is a Coles, so I bought two $100 gift vouchers. I chose to pay by direct debit – which is the cheapest way to do it – and to have them sent to me by standard post. The cost of the $200 worth of gift vouchers was $190.60c.

Three days later the two cards arrived in the mail, and I used them for my shopping that week. It’s a great saving, because I basically bought $200 worth of my usual shopping but only paid $190.60 – an immediate saving of $9.40 for the fortnight’s shopping. I’ve done it again this week, and I might increase the amount to $300 per week in the future since I’m always spending at least that much. Then I’ll be saving $14.40 a fortnight.

When I think about it, that means my union membership fees really only cost $7.60 per fortnight. That’s a bargain!”

Jason’s found the simplest way to use CPSU Rewards to make your union membership pay. The simple savings are not just limited to groceries. You can also buy discount gift cards for Caltex/Woolworths petrol stations – get a 5% discount on your fuel, and combine that with your shopping voucher for even more savings!
