Morwell Fire OHS Update

Updated 22/04/2016

DEECD has outlined the actions being taken in response to the ongoing Morwell mine fire and air quality throughout the region.  Transcript of the email correspondence last Friday between CPSU and DEECD SEVR follows;

Hi Nick,

I can update you on some of the actions taken this week to ensure OHS issues are addressed for our SEVR personnel:

•    The SSS and Visiting Teacher staff based at Morwell have relocated offices to the Moe Regional Office for the duration of the event.

•    One Government School, Commercial Road PS, Morwell, has closed and students and staff are taken by bus to three schools in Moe where they will continue to operate at least until the end of next week.  This school is the closest to the mine and we have acted upon advice from the EPA and Department of Health.

•    EAP support was provide on Monday 17 February for SSS and VPS staff at the Moe office to assist anyone requiring support.

•    Air monitoring (handheld and fixed) continues to be used across many sites in Morwell to provide accurate data so that informed decisions can take place.

•    Schools and Services in Morwell have been provided with details on strategies they can put in place to support the health of all  staff and children.

If you need further advice on actions taken, please feel free to give me a call.

Regards,

Dean Mann | Deputy Regional Director | South Eastern Victoria Region
Department of Education and Early Childhood Development
