VCGLR Rosters Now Introduced
CPSU raised with Worksafe the nature of the Inspectorates work requirements and associated safe driving requirements and it is the view of members that the rosters be modified to ensure that any hazards identified are mitigated to protect the health and safety of VCGLR employees.
CPSU is continuing discussions with VCGLR and Worksafe in relation to the health and safety concerns around the new rosters.
In response to the Provisional Improvement Notice issued, Worksafe are undertaking a review of the newly introduced roster arrangements, predominately looking at the fatigue impacts and also consequential impacts to your health and safety.
CPSU have also raised with Worksafe the nature of the Inspectorates work requirements and associated safe driving requirements.
It is the view of the union that the rosters should be modified to ensure that any hazards identified are mitigated to protect the health and safety of VCGLR employees.
As part of the ongoing review process, it is vital that members take the time to document all identified hazards, near misses and incidents that occur during their shift. It is important to highlight hazards associated with country and regional visits required. CPSU also encourage all members to document their personal difficulties with roster such as adjustment to the 4am finish, insufficient rest breaks and adaption of your body clock to the new roster and absence of work life balance as it applies to weekend work.
CPSU are still awaiting documentation from VCGLR to substantiate the implemented control measures to mitigate the identified hazards and risk to staff with the new rosters. We are continuing to work with the parties, including your HSR’s and with Work safe’s intervention and guidance on this matter.
If you have any question regarding this, or another matter, please email CPSU Team Leader Julie McKeown and/or OHS Officers, Carl Marsich and Jane Skillen. Alternatively you may call 9639-1822.
