EBA Negotiations Start - WWCC Deadline - Recall and Notice - SSB Administration

Updated 22/04/2016

Negotiations are set for 2008 as DEECD has been in contact requesting to commence negotiations just as summer holidays are upon us all after our SSO Claims were sent to the Department many months ago.

A preliminary meeting with the Department will take place on the 20 December to work out a meeting schedule and protocols around the negotiations for our new wages and conditions.

The Department's negotiation team will be Tony Bugden, Sandra Davies, and Ozlem Acick.

Integration, Library, Computer, Laboratory Technicians, Admin, Cooking Assistants, and OHSC SSO's are needed by CPSU.

CPSU is starting focus groups for all SSO work streams to be the sounding boards when negotiation of our new Agreement commences.

You would be called or emailed when issues to do with your job are raised in the negotiating process.

Your opinion is necessary, so get on board and email Geraldine Hughes or Christine Kells to put your name down!

As a CPSU member once said,
"CPSU is not my brain, it's my voice!"

This will commence in the New Year when the Agreement negotiations commence.

A special edition of SSO News has been published for those who are administering the SSB and you can view/print a formatted version by clicking here ;

WWCC Deadline 30 December

CPSU reminds SSO's that they must apply for a Working with Children Registration Card by the 30 December.

DEECD now says that subject to the SSO Agreement process, it will recommend that SSO's be reimbursed for the money that they spend on the card, or that if their school is paying, that the school will be reimbursed the money.

If your school isn't paying for you, and you haven't applied for a card then you must do so by the 30 December.

The card has been an issue of fairness and equity with SSO's being the only public sector staff having to pay for their own cards.

CPSU is pleased that the Department's attitude has shifted, but still calls on DEECD to pay the cost outright, and save their employees confusion, distress and expense.

Recall and Notice

SSO's who have still not been told the days or how many they will be recalled for have called CPSU to ask for advice.

Your current SSO Agreement states that at least four weeks into the preceding term before recall is required, notice must be given by your school.

This year this was the week commencing 29th October 2007 so the last day you could be given notice of when you would be recalled was 2nd November 2007.

If your school didn't give you notice by the above date, or still hasn't, then you may still agree to do recall, but it can't be required of you, because the proper notice has not been given as required by our SSO Agreement.

A Very Big Year

It's been a very big year for CPSU members with AIRC appearances, campaigns on the WWCC, correct classification of SSO's, the new Education Act, the School Start Bonus, Bullying, OHS, Cases 21 Finance and so many other issues that SSO's have called in about..

One of the biggest reasons that SSO's contacted CPSU this year was just to call to say "thanks for being there".

CPSU wishes all our SSO's a safe and happy holiday.
