Our VPSA2009 Claims Have Now Been Served on State Gov t

CPSU has written to Premier John Brumby with an outline of the claims and issues union members seek to negotiate into our next Victorian Public Service Agreement due in early 2009.

CPSU will now be developing broad clauses to support our claims and conducting preliminary meetings with Workforce Victoria, the State Government s lead organisation for the bargaining.

How CPSU negotiates Agreements is regulated by the Workplace Relations Act 1996 and its Regulations 2006.

With Labor forming Government following last year s Federal election, industrial relations laws are currently in a transitional phase.

Federal Labor has already made some changes to Work Choices.

Labor s changes so far provide for:

- No more AWA s
- ‚Äö?Ñ??No disadvantage test reintroduced requiring agreements to be assessed against award
- Option to ‚Äö?Ñ??vary/extend Certified Agreement (avoid Work Choices)

New comprehensive IR laws may not apply in full until mid 2010 (subject to passage through the Federal Parliament) and during the transition to Labor s new national IR laws the Work Choices bargaining system still applies to CPSU.
