WorkSafe Upholds CRU North West Improvement Notice

Several meetings took place in the last few weeks between management, local HSRs and HSR Support Officer Sergio Pirisi at DHS Children Residential Units (CRUs) in the North West region about the lack of adequate processes to deal with difficult clients.

These meetings took place to ensure all parties were given the opportunity to clarify, address, and consult about the OHS issues illustrated by the a possible failure to provide safe systems of work, and the possible lack of adequate processes in place to deal with difficult clients in Coburg.

DHS Management did not offer any reasonable alternative remedy to address the OHS issues raised from the HSR representing their local DWG.

As a consequence a PIN was issued on the 19/12/08.

An Entry Report was compiled from WorkSafe Inspectors on the 6/2/09 upholding the PIN with modifications, confirming breaches of S4, S21.2(a) and S23 on the OHS Act 2004.

CPSU is looking forward in meeting with our HSRs in the North West region to discuss the progress of WorkSafe s PIN modification further.
