Big Bargaining Year

Updated 22/04/2016

2011 is a big year for our members with eighteen (18) of our Agreements to be re-negotiated with the new Baillieu Government and this bargaining will occur for the first time under the new protections provided by the federal Fair Work legislation.

Our claims are about salary, superannuation and career (classification) structure(s) as the key issues to drive retention and assist recruitment.

The Government’s Bargaining Stance by contrast means either a Real Wage Cut or Job Cuts.

2.5% removes the equivalent of $15M from cash strapped service delivery agencies each year.

2.5% is tantamount to Blackmail Bargaining.

Departments like Health and Human Services, Justice, Education, Planning & Community Development, Transport, Business and Industry, Primary Industries & Sustainability and Environment will all be forced to cut services to survive.

To cap the centrally funded pay component makes no sense as Agencies will just cut jobs or delay new appointments, or re-employ at a lower Grade, or struggle to pay to retain existing staff.

Victoria's population has grown 20% in the last ten years and the public are demanding quality services.

The Government needs to ditch its ‘cash at bank’ mentality around productivity and the Premier needs to take charge of bargaining and sideline Treasury otherwise there’ll be no good faith nor service delivery improvements possible.

The State Government must plan for sensible and practical industrial resolutions otherwise there’ll just be grief and backdown.
