AIRC Lists Dispute

In response to our dispute being listed before the Commission the union has now been advised that VicPol have engaged legal firm Minter Ellison to argue against a dispute settlement role for the Commission.

CPSU wrote to Assistant Commissioner Luke Cornelius at Ethical Standards back in February outlining our concerns and issues with VicPol's intention to develop the Improper Association policy.

ESD has finally responded inj writing to our issues as the Australian Industrial Relations Commission lists the dispute for hearing on Tuesday 25 March 2008.

The matter is far from settled as you can read.

VicPol intend to make all employees, upon commencement, complete either a “No Associations to Declare Form” or an “Association Assessment Report” as required under the Instruction.

In response to our dispute being listed before the Commission the union has now been advised that VicPol have engaged legal firm Minter Ellison to argue against a dispute settlement role for the Commission.

This makes the offer of a meeting in ESD's response letter rather hollow and VicPol should withdraw the policy to allow the issue to be worked though in a more appropriate manner and in compliance with the obligations under our Victorian Public Service Agreement 2006.

CPSU has now engaged top law firm Maurice Blackburn to represent our members' interests in this matter on Tuesday.
