More Police Support Made Redundant

Updated 22/04/2016

Hundreds more police support staff face the sack as the department calls on more unsworn workers to apply for redundancy.  An email inviting staff to apply for redundancy packages was circulated to unsworn officers this week.  Sworn police were already doing the work of support staff after almost 400 jobs have already been removed, crippling vital support for our crime fighters.  There's not much value for our community in recruiting additional police if government budget cuts just force them off the street, away from operational duties, to run Victoria Police.  Why pay twice as much for operational police to be property clerks, station support, drivers, chefs, and analysts.  It's cost counterproductive and impacts on community safety.  This is complete stupidity and the Government should think again before forcing Police Command to further undermine their crime fighting operations.
