New Redress Scheme for VicPol Victims

Updated 13/02/2020
Any former or current Victoria Police employee, who have experienced sexual harassment or sex discrimination in the workplace can now apply to the new Restorative Engagement and Redress Scheme. The new scheme, is administered by the Department of Justice and Community Safety (DJCS), independently of Victoria Police. A dedicated team is also now available to support people who wish to apply or participate in the scheme. The team has been selected for their expertise working with people who have been subjected to harm in the workplace, sexual harassment and sex discrimination. The scheme will offer a range of options for eligible participants including counseling, a restorative engagement process and, based on the offending behavior, a potential financial payment. Importantly, it will provide a supportive and confidential environment for individuals to share their story and be believed. It delivers on a key recommendation from the Victorian Equal Opportunity and Human Right Commission’s (VEOHRC) Independent Review into sex discrimination and sexual harassment, including predatory behavior in Victoria Police. The government has worked closely with the Community and Public Sector Union to develop a scheme that provides support and meaningful acknowledgement of the harm that has been caused. CPSU Organiser Terri Carr can be contacted in relation to information or assistance surrounding the scheme.
