What This Means
This is not just a result — it’s a resounding statement.
Members across the state have spoken with strength, unity, and purpose.
This vote sends a loud and undeniable message:
Prison workers will not accept unsafe workplaces, collapsing morale, and poor leadership.
The vote was initiated following widespread member concerns raised through CPSU workplace delegates.
It reflects the lived experience of staff, and the strong desire for meaningful change at the top of the department.
CPSU will now formally communicate the result of this vote to key decision-makers, including the Secretary of the Department of Justice and Community Safety and the Office of the Minister for Corrections.
We expect the Government of Victoria to listen to its Officers, the prison workers, who risk their safety every day.
Both custodial and non-custodial staff face verbal and/or physical abuse as part of their daily reality.
It is our well-being that is on the line, and our strong views must be heard.
Now is the time for the government to act and CPSU will continue to press for accountability and the change our members have demanded.
